Romping it UP with the Border Hookups
Attending an RV music festival
We took a short road trip to Sonoita Arizona to attend a music festival called Romp it Up, hosted by Dave and Jacqueline Hudson of The Border Hookups.
That was two weeks ago. I actually have other road tales to tell since then, but I’ll keep them somewhat in order.
My excuse for not reporting this right now away is that we got home and snow fell, and it put us in a tailspin for several days. We were discombobulated longer than the snow lasted, to tell the truth. Such is our love of good weather…
Going to Sonoita
Sonoita is about 500 miles from home, so we needed two days to make the trip. The first night we stayed at an Escapees Park in Deming, New Mexico called Dream Catcher. I actually wish we could have stayed there longer. The park is really nice, and they set out danishes and coffee in the morning. I was reading the activity schedule and they do have several, but unfortunately we were just on a quick overnight. I’ll have to plan better next time.
Actually, this route has quiet a few attractions we would like to spend some time checking out. I’ll get back to you when we do that!
Sonoita Fairgrounds
We arrived and were greeted by Romp it Up Roadies. They helped us get checked in, showed us where we could fill our water tank, then guided us to our site. We were on “the end cap” with a few other campers. We knew our neighbors were going to be great - they had a Mini Lite and Halloween decorations!
Welcoming Words
We all met in the gathering space, and Dave and Jacqueline were there to welcome us. We got goodie bags and mingled with fellow roadies.
Nightly concerts
The ramada had a nice stage and a bar area. Plus lots of space for chairs, along with picnic table and propane heaters. Other than Halloween night, when Jacqueline played DJ for the costume party, there was live music every night. This is one of our favorite activities; sitting with a few friends and listening to love music. Every artist or duo was terrific. If you ever go to Sonoita, I recommend looking for local live music venues. There is some great talent!
Coffee and groceries
On Halloween day, we drove into the town of Patagonia in the afternoon. We needed a couple groceries. We found The Gathering Grounds and had coffee and goodies. We shared some blueberry ice cream, and an oatmeal cookie cream sandwich. Tony walked to the ATM. He made me stay seated while he went, because my knee was bothering me and he didn’t want me to overwork it.
Patagonia is a really cute little town and I wish I had been able to walk though it more. Next time!
Oh, about my knee
My knee has been bothering me since we were in Amana Iowa at the beginning of October. I think I overused it while at the Dealer Open House in last September.
I was a little concerned about the distance between where we were camped and where all the activities and music took place. However, we got the Lectric e-bikes out of the truck, and I found that if I used the handle-bar throttle, and kept my bad leg straight on the pedals, I could get around quite easily. On Halloween night, when we were in costumes, Tony drove us over.
Headed back
Sadly, we had to leave before all the festivities were over. Tony had a doctor appointment Tuesday morning, so we needed to be home Monday. We thought we would spend the night in Hatch, New Mexico because there are some fun places there that we would like to spend time checking out. However, we found out that several friends were camping just north of Hatch, at Caballo Lake State Park, so we decided to join them for our overnight stay. We found a site in the same circle, and once we were set up with Water and electricity hookups, we hung out with our friends. They build a fire, and brought out the s’mores makings. I actually roasted a marshmallow and ate a s’more! I guess that means I’m good for another few years.
Snow Day
As I mentioned, we were just easing back into a work schedule and we woke up to a thick layer of snow on the ground. It kept snowing all that day, and although it was really pretty, it messed up our plans to make a water run and a few other errands. We mumbled and grumbled about it, and rearranged some schedules, then hunkered inside the house and waited for it to pass. It cleared up the next day and all was well in the world.
